A Journey of Compassion & Change

Every great movement begins with a single act of compassion. For Satish and Yogita Moon, founders of Shikshangram Shelter for Children, that moment came in 2008 — when they met five children living on the streets of Lonavala. With no home, no family, and no access to education, these children only dreamed of being safe and cared for.

Satish and Yogita decided to change that — not just for those five, but for every child who deserved a chance at life. They rented a small house in Malavali, opened the doors to those children, and began what would soon become a movement of hope called Shikshangram.

Their relentless efforts, sleepless nights, and belief in every child’s potential slowly drew the attention of well-wishers and organizations. When the Lions Club of Lonavala-Khandala saw their dedication, they donated land for a permanent campus — the first major milestone in Shikshangram’s journey.

From five children in a rented home to over 145 children today living, learning, and thriving in a loving community, Satish and Yogita have built more than a shelter — they’ve built a family.

“We don’t just provide food or education,” says Yogita. “We provide belonging, dignity, and hope. Every child here is family.”

Today, Shikshangram stands as a living example of what love, resilience, and faith can create — a sanctuary where abandoned and underprivileged children rebuild their lives with confidence, creativity, and compassion.
