Our Survey

Information

Understanding the Need. Reaching the Unseen.

Before Shikshangram Shelter for Children began, our founders, Satish and Yogita Moon, spent months traveling through railway stations, slum areas, and rural villages — listening, observing, and understanding the struggles of children living on the margins of society.

They discovered heartbreaking realities:

  • Children living alone on railway platforms, surviving without food or safety.

  • Young boys forced into child labour in factories and roadside dhabas.

  • Girls in slum areas exposed to abuse, molestation, and trafficking risks.

  • Families so poor that education became a forgotten dream.

This survey was not just a data exercise — it was an awakening.
It helped us identify where help was needed most and guided the foundation of Shikshangram’s mission:

To rescue, protect, and empower children in danger — giving them a safe home, education, and a future filled with dignity.

🧭 What Our Survey Achieved

  • Mapped critical child vulnerability zones across Pune and Lonavala regions.

  • Identified street children and child labour cases for immediate rehabilitation.

  • Partnered with local police and community members to ensure children’s safety.

  • Helped shape our rescue and rehabilitation strategy still used today.

💬 Message from the Founders

“When we met those children on railway platforms and in dark corners of the city, we knew we couldn’t turn away. That’s where Shikshangram began — not as an idea, but as a promise to every child we met.” — Satish & Yogita Moon

🌍 Continuing the Work

Even today, our team continues periodic surveys to monitor vulnerable communities, identify children at risk, and connect them with safety, education, and care.

Real change begins with understanding.
